Privacy Policy

Brightline emails you your own Kindle highlights. This policy explains exactly what we collect to do that, and what we never touch.

Last updated: 1 September 2026

1. What We Collect

Brightline does one thing, so it collects only what that requires:

  • Your Kindle highlights, and the title and author of the books they come from. These are read from your own Amazon Kindle notebook page (read.amazon.com/notebook) by the Brightline browser extension, and only when you start a sync yourself.
  • Your email address and account identifier, provided when you sign up.
  • Your email preferences: timezone, send time, frequency, and how many highlights you want per email.
  • A record of which highlights we have sent you, and any you have saved or hidden. This is what stops the same quote arriving twice.

2. What We Do Not Collect

The extension runs only on read.amazon.com and brightline.ink. It does not read any other site, and it is not able to:

  • See your Amazon password, payment details, orders, or purchase history.
  • Read your browsing activity on any other website.
  • Access the contents of your books — only the passages you highlighted yourself.

3. How We Use It

Your highlights are used to send you your own highlights. That is the entire purpose:

  • To email you a selection from your library on the schedule you choose.
  • To decide which highlights to send, so you see your whole library over time rather than the same few repeatedly.
  • To show you your library, and to export it when you ask.

4. We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or share your highlights or email address for advertising, and we do not use them to train machine learning models. We share data only with the services required to run Brightline:

  • Vercel — hosting.
  • Neon — the database storing your highlights.
  • Clerk — sign-in and account management.
  • Resend — sending your email.
  • We may also disclose information if required by law.

5. Your Rights

Your library belongs to you:

  • Export everything, at any time, as Markdown, JSON, or CSV, from your settings page.
  • Unsubscribe with one click from any email, or from your settings page. This stops the email and leaves your library untouched.
  • Ask us to delete your account and every highlight we hold. Email hello@brightline.ink and we will action it.

6. Retention and Security

We keep your highlights until you ask us to delete them, or until you delete your account. Data is stored in an access-controlled database and transmitted over HTTPS. Highlights you hide are retained but never sent to you again, so that hiding one is reversible.
